About Trends

To me this is a very good example of how we could separate culture and trends. It is very normal to confuse those two, because sometimes we are so used to something that we think it is part of our culture, but in reality its about trends. In this case we can see two things: Mexicans definitely are not like this (rude, with many tattoos, shaved, long t-shirts, jeans, and others), this is only a style, that could be part of any other culture. Second the fact that some Thai men are using the "Mexican style" doesn't mean that it turn them less Thai, I mean, a trend is only a superficial thing that we take. It may reflect our personality, but doesn't change our culture. Those men still being Thai, and they have normal lives. They just use this style as a hobby and get fun of it. I think it is a interesting way to know new people and spend time with them, sharing things in common.

  1. Hi Daniela, nice post! ... As we know the people usually have steorotypes of the Mexican Gangster culture, refering to them as violent and criminal people.. Maybe I have commited that error in some part of my life, but I finally think that this is not true... I have some Mexican friends and are very cool people, and spontaneous.. I think they are good people.. In conclusion, I agree with you.. And finally we cannot generalize... And this is a good example of subcultures.

  2. Hi Daniela! I agree with your post, specially because we can't judge a person by the dress or take a look at the Congress of Colombia, rats with tie.
But that's another story. This is a proof of the big communication that exists in this world and people like them conserve their culture despite trends,
